Using goats to create a fire barrier

Our goats grazing in a moveable fence at the foot of the rocks

The grass is growing finally! Feeding our goats just got a lot easier. If the grass is let grow, it’ll be over our heads in just a few months. Once the rains finish, the tall grass will dry out and be a fire hazard – since every dry season, bush fires are lit on the rocks behind our garden. So, we will get the goats to eat the grass along the back of the garden all summer long so that it has no chance to grow tall. We just position the moveable fences where we want the grass cropped and let the goats go to work. This has the triple advantage of feeding them, and saving us cutting the grass and protecting our property from fire, all at the same time. Three for the price of one, hooray!
